Dear Parents/Carers,
What a fantastic week it's been across the school, filled with exciting learning experiences and impressive achievements.
Our youngest learners in Reception have been incredibly busy this week, demonstrating their creativity and passion for the environment. They've been working hard on designing and creating posters to help save the bees. Through this engaging project, the children learned about the vital role bees play in our ecosystem and what we can do to protect these important pollinators. Their dedication and artistic flair truly shone through, and we're so proud of their efforts to raise awareness!
This week in maths, Year 1 delved into the exciting world of money! They had a fantastic time learning about different coins and notes and particularly enjoyed the challenge of matching them up to various amounts. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for this important real-world topic!
In PE this week, Year 2 had a brilliant time honing their Kwik Cricket skills. They focused on practicing their fielding and bowling techniques, making great strides in understanding the game. The children were excited to introduce new elements like scoring runs and using stumps, which added a new layer of strategy to their play. Their determination to score as many runs as possible was evident and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for the sport!
Our Year 3 scientists were engrossed in an exciting experiment on the formation of shadows this week. They meticulously positioned torches at various lengths behind different objects and then carefully drew and measured the shadows these objects created. This hands-on investigation helped them understand how light travels and how the position of a light source affects the size and shape of a shadow.
Year 4 delved into the fascinating world of electricity, investigating which materials were conductors and which were insulators. This practical lesson allowed them to test various materials and observe firsthand how electricity flows (or doesn't flow!) through them, deepening their understanding of electrical circuits.
Year 5 has been busy with some intriguing scientific observations this week. They meticulously completed observations on some salt crystals, carefully noting how they have formed and developed over time from a salt solution. This long-term experiment has provided them with valuable insights into crystallisation processes and the properties of solutions.
Our Year 6 children demonstrated exceptional qualities in their rounders session this week. They showed great teamwork and a competitive spirit, playing hard and working together seamlessly. Their collaboration and determination were evident on the field, making for a thrilling and productive session.
Thank you to all of the adults who attended FUDGE lunches this week. It means so much to the children and they loved having lunch with you so much!
We hope you have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
We are hoping to create a small world area for the children in EYFS to play with. If you have any of the following, we would really appreciate it:
puppets
astroturf cuts off
mini fairy door
mini toadstools
little figures (people) or fairies
minibeasts
vehicles
animals
peg people
You will see in the diary below the planned "Meet the Teacher" meetings - these will be in the KS2 hall and will be a chance to have a brief presentation about your child's new teachers and year group. Children are welcome to attend but must be sitting with their adults and not running around or left on the playground. Please be aware that this is not a time to discuss your child on a one-to-one basis, if needed this will happen in September.

Developing strong oracy skills is crucial for children's success in school and beyond. It empowers them to express themselves confidently, think critically, and engage effectively with others. To support this vital skill, our weekly newsletter will feature fun and engaging oracy activities that families can enjoy together at home, fostering communication and building confidence in your children.
