Maundene Weekly

Dear Parents/Carers,
Reception had a busy week experimenting with various tools and paints to create their own 'Gruffalo' paintings. In addition to this, Mr Levey made the children road tracks that they have absolutely LOVED using within their provision. The children were busy creating their own town with the new road tracks and cars/trucks.
In their maths lessons, the children in Year 1 enjoyed playing maths games to help develop their understanding of doubles. In their art lesson, the children in Year 1 added detail to their final outcome that was created in the style of their focus artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
As part of their RE learning, Year 2 used their prior knowledge to consolidate their learning about Hinduism. The children were learning about Raksha Bandhan and celebrations inside Mandir. The children have really developed curiosity this term whilst learning about Hinduism and have asked so many thought-provoking questions about the topic. Well done Year 2!
In their geography lesson, Year 3 really enjoyed exploring physical geography and examples of this. They then completed an activitiy where the children sorted aspects of human and physical geography, discussing their findings with their partners. In maths, the children continued their learning about division and they used manipulatives to help them divide 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers.
Year 4 had an exciting PE lesson this week with Mr White which focused on tennis skills. The children were focusing on using their hands to keep the ball in the air before using their rackets to practice their backhand. The children thoroughly enjoyed developing these skills and demonstrated our character skill of relationships as they collaborated so well with one another.
The children in Year 5 were working extremely hard this week during their French lesson. This term, the chidlren have been learning about the weather in French and they have written their own weather reports. The week, the children performed their weather reports, focusing hard on their French accent. WOW! Additionally, the children in Year 5 had a workshop this week with Chartwells that focused on sugar this week. They learnt about the sugar in our diets and how this impacts our health.
This week in maths, the children in Year 6 were using protractors to measure the size of angles. When using the protractors, the children supported one another well and reminded one another about the importance of 'starting on 0'. In their English lessons, the children finished off their writing outcome and then reflected on their use of the power of three and how it engages the reader.
Friday was NSPCC Number Day! The children looked incredible in their outfits and loved engaging in all of the maths activities planned for them by their teachers. Thank you Mrs Rattle for organising this event and for everyone involved.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
We are currently collecting resources for wet play for the children to use across the school. We would be really grateful if the following could be donated to the Office:
-colouring pencils
-crayons
-colouring books
-puzzle books e.g. word searches, dot-to-dot, crosswords, sudoku
We understand that sometimes parents would like to speak to the class teacher about their child but can we please ask that you try not to do this first thing in the morning as staff are busy settling and welcoming the children in to class - this also means if it does happen it may appear rushed and not personal.
Please try to do the followiing unless an emergency:
Catch the teacher at the end of the day
Speak to the office staff, Carla and Emma, who will pass a message on to the class teacher to call you
Email in to the school office which will then be passed on to the class teacher
Thank you for your support and understanding with this.
Following on from Pupil feedback recently, Mrs Jackson and a few of the children in Year 6 have planned a Maundene Talent Show for Year R to Year 6 children.
On Wednesday 8th January 2025, Olivia and Arisha in Year 6 spoke to the school about our Maundene Talent Show. They have told the children the following:
On Friday 10th January 2025, a sign up sheet will be put up in all classrooms where up to 10 children can put their names up to show off their talent to their class. We encourage the children to be very specific about each talent and remember, these may have to be performed in front of the school, therefore they need to be something that the children have rehearsed a lot.
On the afternoon of Friday 31st January 2025, auditions will take place in classrooms and a vote will take place. One person from each class who gets the most votes will go through to a final on Tuesday 4th February at 2pm.
On the afternoon of Tuesday 4th February at 2pm, the final will take place where Mrs Jackson, Arisha and Olivia will decide on a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Finally, on Friday 14th February at 2pm, which is the last day of term, Year R to Year 6 are invited into the hall to watch all finalists perform.
We are really excited for all children to show off their talents and we can not wait to celebrate with them.

Developing strong oracy skills is crucial for children's success in school and beyond. It empowers them to express themselves confidently, think critically, and engage effectively with others. To support this vital skill, our weekly newsletter will feature fun and engaging oracy activities that families can enjoy together at home, fostering communication and building confidence in your children.
