Maundene Weekly

Dear Parents/Carers,
Year 6 braved the fog this week and took their PE learning outside to develop their basketball skills further. They practised holding the ball and dribbling it across the playground. they will continue to develop these skills over the coming week and also put them into game situations. In geography they also looked at maps of the USA and discovered that it is divided into many different states. They had a virtual visit from the author, Moss Montmomery on Thursday learning more about his book and for a chance to ask him questions.
Year 5 were experimenting with colour mixing during their art lesson this week. The children loved using their knowledge of primary colours and mixing them to make secondary and tertiary colours. They also enjoyed a visit to Howletts zoo on Friday to learn all about the different animals and were very excited when they finally found the elephants!
Year 4 had the pleasure of the Rotary Shoebox Appeal on Thursday! The children were learning all about the Appeal and discussed the importance of them which will support their English learning this term. We look forward to seeing the filled shoe boxes at the end of the term when they are handed over to be distributed.
Year 3 enthusiastically used similies within their writing this week to engage the reader. The children loved describing Greta from their core text as having eyes as brown as chocolate buttons! The children also showed resilience when adding numbers across 10 and 100 throughout their maths lessons.
Year 2 have been enjoying exploring noun phrases and suffixes based on the setting in their core text, The Rainbow Fish. In PE, the children loved practising their chess passes in pairs and small groups. The children were working collaboratively and giving one another positive praise and encouragement which was wonderful to see.
Year 1 enjoyed linking up with their Year 4 reading buddies to share books and read together. The children love this opportunity and it is always great to see how supportive Year 4 children are with the younger children - well done everyone!
Year R have been enjoying their water play this week and are becoming more independent in putting their puddle suits on themselves to avoid becoming too wet! Well done, Kingfishers and Doves - you are doing so well. They also had an amazing morning tasting and describing a range of fruits using their senses. They then wrote a list of the fruits they wanted to include in their fruit salads next week.
Have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday.

Medway Towns District Scouts emailed into the school to seek permission for any young members who attend Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to wear their uniforms to school this coming Remembrance Day, Monday 11th November.
This has also been extended to Brownies and Girl Guides.
We look forward to seeing lots of our pupils in their uniforms.
On Friday 15th November we will be raising money for Children in Need.
We encourage children to come in dressed in Children in Need clothing or PJs for the day.
We ask that Parents please donate online.
Please find attached the Medway foodback 2024 Reverse Advent Calendar. Medway foodbank have received amazing support during the Harvest period but demand for their services remains high in Medway so if you feel able to donate to us as we head into the Christmas period, we would be extremely grateful for your help.
Maundene will be collecting the food donations over the month of November and we will then be arranging a collection from the foodbank. Please send any items into school and we will store them until collection day.
