Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
Year 6 have started their science learning with investigating electrical circuits and developing their understanding of how circuits work. They started the week by using the electrical equipment to make circuits and recap on prior learning. We look forward to seeing them progress in their understanding of electricity and carrying out more investigations to find out more.
Year 5 continued their geography learning and started by recapping the water cycle using dram techniques. The children created a hurricane in a jar as part of their hook days and could confidently explain how they created these - great fun was had by all. They will also be developing their understanding and farming and the importance of this within the food chain. They are all looking forward to their Howletts visit nest week - fingers and toes crossed for good weather for when they go!
Year 4 have been using the chrome books this week to compare the UK and `Germany locations. They were confidently using geographical language to compare the two places. They have also been introduced to their new core text, Letters from the Lighthouse Keeper, and will have their English learning journey based around this.
Year 3 did so well in their trashion show and it was lovely to see them strutting their stuff down the school catwalk today! They had so much fun designing and making their outfits....even if the classrooms did look like bomb sites at one point! They have clearly developed a good understanding of the importance of recycling and the impact this will have on the world they live in.
Year 2 started their learning journey based around the core text, Rainbow Fish. They started the week by exploring sand and items found in the sea as part of their hook day to help generate key vocabulary and build up work banks ready for writing.
Year 1 have been introduced to their new core text - Izzy Gizmo - by becoming inventors. They had great fun creating their own inventions using recycling and shared their creations with the rest of the class. Their imaginations came alive during this sessions and they had great fun being creative.
Year R have been enjoying some spooky activities in their inside and outside provisions - they have been exploring pumpkins and developing their fine motor skills by picking up objects intwined in a make shift spiders web. It has also be amazing to see the progress they have made in their phonics understanding - they are really starting to becoming sponges and absorbing everything they are being taught. We love this part of the year when we see the children recalling lots of new learning - well done Year R!
We end the week with our annual PTA fireworks display and we look forward to seeing many of you back this evening. A big thank you to our amazing volunteers on the Maundene PTA who has spent many hours of their own time organising this event for the community.
Have a lovely weekend and see you all on Monday where we welcome Mrs Jackson back from her maternity leave. We look forward to seeing her about the school every day again and supporting with the teaching and learning across the school.
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team
Congratulations to the new Mrs Hampton - Miss Byrne, SENCO - on her recent wedding in half term. We hope you had an amazing day with your new husband and it was lovely that so many of us were able to celebrate the day with you.
Please find attached the Medway foodback 2024 Reverse Advent Calendar. Medway foodbank have received amazing support during the Harvest period but demand for their services remains high in Medway so if you feel able to donate to us as we head into the Christmas period, we would be extremely grateful for your help.
Maundene will be collecting the food donations over the month of November and we will then be arranging a collection from the foodbank. Please send any items into school and we will store them until collection day.
Once again we have had concerned residents from around Maundene school complain about inconsiderate parking at drop off and pick up times. Please can you ensure you are not parking across driveways or in allocated bays. We strongly encourage people to if you can or park in Morrisons car park and walk up to school.
Medway Towns District Scouts emailed into the school to seek permission for any young members who attend Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers to wear their Scout uniforms to school this coming Remembrance Day.
Miss Capes agreed to this request and asked that you send your child in wearing their uniform where appropriate on Monday 11th November.
We look forward to seeing lots of our pupils in their uniforms.
