Maundene Weekly
________________________
Dear Parents/Carers,
It has been wonderful to have the children back for this academic year. and we have now completed our first full week back! The children have settled extremely well into their new classes and across the school they are already enthused in their learning. Well done everyone.
Year 3 have been enjoying their swimming lessons this week and the instructors have been so impressed with their resilience and hard work. So much progress has been made in just 5 lessons and the children have loved going into the pool every day. Year 2 had an amazing start to their dance unit in PE and were lucky enough to be taught by Mrs Lambert who is a qualified dance teacher! Great fun and learning was had by all.
At the start of the week, many of the year groups participated in their hook days - drawing the children into their core text and developing their curiosity about what it is about. Year R children are now in school full time and have made a great start to their time at Maundene - they have worked well in the classroom and also managed the lunchtime routine like they have been at Maundene far longer than a week!
On Thursday, Year 3 had a visit from Sammy the Seagull, the character based in their core text, because he was not happy with all the rubbish left behind. He asked the children to make a sandwich out of all the plastic and think carefully about what it would be like if they had to eat plastic for their lunch! Year 5 utalised Google slides to demonstrate their knowledge of life cycles in their science learning. Year 6 also enjoyed their science learning and were busy investigating how light travels in straight lines.
Friday saw Year 3 hunting for technical vocabulary associated with plastic pollution and then using the vocabulary in their non-chronological writing. The children also had their last swimming lesson of the week and they have been amazing - thank you to all parents for ensuring their swimming kit was in school every day.
Have a lovely weekend and we hope the weather warms up a little for you all to enjoy!
