Metacognition consistently comes out as one of the most powerful teaching and learning interventions any school can focus on to raise achievement. Top of the Education Endowment Foundation’s Teaching and Learning Toolkit, metacognition is more relevant now than ever. The challenges of the pandemic have led to many learners seeing their independent learning skills fall back. By focussing on metacognition, schools can help learners reengage with learning, reflect on their efforts, and once again feel in control of the learning process. In this training, Mike will share key practical ideas around metacognition, alongside some of the simplest, most effective ways any school can start thinking about, talking about, and implementing metacognitive strategies in the classroom.
The day will be divided into three sessions:
Session 1: Understanding Metacognition Inside the Classroom
Session 2: Making Metacognition a Practical Part of Your Classroom
Session 3: Implementation and Resource Development
Mike is running three professional learning workshops for the region on Metacognition, Questioning and Assessment for Learning - all workshops are available to book individually, although attendance at all three is encouraged as each fits together as one whole.
