Module 6
Features:
We have been revisiting Non-chronological reports this week and looking at a variety of different ones during our English and reading lessons. We have been identify and highlighting the different features of the reports.
Tenses:
Today, we checked our understanding of tenses by looking at the different tenses we have learnt this year. We then identified what tense the non-chronological report we had was written in.
After this we then edit a range of regular verbs from present tense into past tense by either adding the suffix 'ed' and irregular verbs by changing the word completely. We then had to try and write a range of sentences in past tense using regular verbs and irregular verbs as well as editing sentences to make present perfect tense.
NC: using the present perfect form of verbs in contrast to the past tense
Third person:
After identifying that Non-Chronological reports are written in third person we needed to identify different texts and find explain what points of view it was written in.
We then wrote our own sentences in first person and then in third person to show the different pronouns we use for each one.
NC: choosing nouns or pronouns appropriately for clarity and cohesion and to avoid repetition
Plan:
We will be writing a Non-chronological report about Egyptians, our current historical period of time, so today we planned our different section for our report. We recapped the different features through a quick quiz to make sure we remember them. Then, in pairs, we spoke about what we have learnt, in History, and what could be in each section.
We wrote these facts in each section to help with writing our report.
NC: plan their writing by:
discussing writing similar to that which they are planning to write in order to understand and learn from its structure, vocabulary and grammar
discussing and recording ideas
Drafting:
Today we drafted our non-chronological report. We used everything we have been learning and made sure that when we wrote each section we were using our previous learning. We wrote about Who and when they were, their jobs and hierarchy and their Gods.
NC: draft and write by:
composing and rehearsing sentences orally (including dialogue), progressively building a varied and rich vocabulary and an increasing range of sentence structures (English Appendix 2)
in non-narrative material, using simple organisational devices [for example, headings and sub-headings]
Editing:
Today we spent our lesson reading over our drafts and making sure that it is to the best of our ability. We have been given some areas that we need to work on and with our talking partner.
NC: evaluate and edit by:
assessing the effectiveness of their own and others’ writing and suggesting improvements
proposing changes to grammar and vocabulary to improve consistency, including the accurate use of pronouns in sentences
proof-read for spelling and punctuation errors
read aloud their own writing, to a group or the whole class, using appropriate intonation and controlling the tone and volume so that the meaning is clear.
Publishing:
After drafting and editing our work then wrote it out again in our neatest handwriting showing off our learning and fabulous presentation.
NC: in non-narrative material, using simple organisational devices [for example, headings and sub-headings]
Features:
Today we were looking at the different features of a Diary entry. We had to read over different diary entries and identify the different features.
Planned:
After looking at the different features and practicing them througout the week, we have planned a diary entry from our "No Technology "day. We had to make sure we put it in chronological order and use specific features within our plan.
NC: plan their writing by:
discussing writing similar to that which they are planning to write in order to understand and learn from its structure, vocabulary and grammar
discussing and recording ideas
Draft:
After planning our diary entry we have now written a draft of a diary entry. We had to use all the features we have learnt throughout our English lessons.
NC: draft and write by:
composing and rehearsing sentences orally (including dialogue), progressively building a varied and rich vocabulary and an increasing range of sentence structures (English Appendix 2)
in non-narrative material, using simple organisational devices [for example, headings and sub-headings]
