Dreams and Goals
During this module, we will be focussing on Dreams and Goals. We will talk about our dreams and goals and how we might need money to help us achieve them. We will also look at jobs that people we know do, look at the fact that some jobs pay more money than others and reflect on what types of jobs we might like to do when we are older. Finall we will look at the similarities and differences between ourselves (and our dreams and goals) and someone from a different culture.
This week we looked at what a goal or a dream is and the discussed what our goals were for the rest of the year ahead of us. We then thought about what we would love to be able to do in the future and recorded what our dream for the future is.
During today's lesson we investigated different jobs/careers. We matched salaries to different job types in our groups and then discussed the actual salaries each category receives (based on national average statistics). Following this activity, we consider three questions:
1. Who earns the most and why might that be?
2. Who contributes the most to society?
3. Who should earn the most based on the job they do?
When answering the questions, we gave justifications to support our answers.
Building on our lesson of investigating jobs and careers, we discussed the top three jobs/careers that we would like to have when we are old enough. We then chose one of those to investigate to find out what the job entailed and what qualifications we would need to achieve our goal.
Celebrating Differences
In this Puzzle (unit) the class explore culture and cultural differences. They link this to racism, talking about what it is and how to be aware of their own feelings towards people from different cultures. They revisit the topic of bullying and discuss rumour spreading and name-calling. The children talk about direct and indirect bullying as well as ways to encourage children to not using bullying behaviours. The class talk about happiness regardless of material wealth and respecting other people’s cultures.
Lesson 1 & 2: Understanding different cultures and what racism is.
Together, we explore what racism and what we can do if we witness it or experience it. We watched a BBC clip of children behaving inappropriately and treating people in an unacceptable way; we discussed how you would deal with such situation. To consolidate what we had learnt, we then designed a supportive ribbon against racism.
Lesson 3: Rumours and name calling
Today we explored why it is important to ignore rumours and to be involved in name-calling. It is important to try our best to help stop rumours and to not be a by stander when it comes to name calling. We looked at a scenario that incorporated this idea and then role played the conflict and then solution.
Lesson 4: types of bullying
We looked at different scenarios and thought about how we think the person in each of them should react and deal with the situation effectively. We discovered the difference between direct and indirect bullying and sorted different scenarios into direct and indirect bullying to demonstrate our understanding.
Being me in my world
This module we have been focussing on the puzzle piece ‘Being me in my world’. During this unit we have been thinking about our year ahead and the goals that we would like to achieve over the course of the year. In addition to this, we thought about the challenges that we may face when aspiring to achieve these and what strategies we could put in placeto help
We discussed our rights and responsibilities as a member of our class and school, as well as in the wider community and in our country. We were able to discuss when we thought someone’s needs were being met and when we thought that they weren’t.
Finally, we thought about our own behaviour and its impact on those around us and considered our choices, rewards and consequences associated with these.
Today we discussed all the positive aspects of our school that we appreciate and thought about how these things help us to learn. This helped us to thi about our own personal goals for the year ahead.
Today we looked at things that are known to Britain; such as Big Ben and Stone Henge and then thought about the things we like about our countries. We then Looked at images of children from different cultures and used article cards from the UNCRC (United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child) to decide which rights we believed were being met and which needs were not being met.
We learnt how to understand our rights and responsibilities as a British citizen and as a member of our school. We then lookat how to empathise with people in this country whose lives are different to ours.
This week we discussed how we can make choices about my own behaviour by understanding how rewards and consequences feel. We also explored the idea that my actions affect not only me, but others too. We also learnt to understand how an individual’s behaviour can impact on a group and that we can contribute to the group to understand how we can function best as a whole.
Today we discussed ways in which we can stay safe online, particularly thinking about Stop. Lock. Tell and keeping personal information private. After discussing these ideas, we createdd our own poster to share with other year groups so that they also know how they can stay safe.
