Module 5 - Cricket and Athletics
During our PE lessons this week we have been revisiting our throwing and catching skills as well as our jumping skills.
Cricket: Catching and throwing skills
During our Secondary PE lessons we have focused on our catching skills. We practiced our throwing and catching on our own by throwing the ball in the air and seeing how many times we could clap before we caught it. We then had to challenge other children in our class. We finished the lesson by playing a competitive throwing and catching game .
Athletics: Jumping in a sequence
We have been developing our jumps for distance this week. We had to practice our jumping and try and extend the distance of our jumps. After that we were learning how to combine different jumps and make routines using a time or point system to create scoring system. We then had to complete our routines and then challenged other children from the class to try our routines and beat our score.
NC: use running, jumping, throwing and catching in isolation and in combination.
This week in our PE lesson we have developed our running skills and catching skills.
Cricket: Catching at different heights.
In our PE this week we have been focusing on how to catch at different heights. We have learnt how to catch a ball that is coming towards you and how to catch one falling from the sky. We then took this skill and used it during a game situation where we needed to catch the ball as quickly as we could and beat the other team.
Athletics: Running at different speeds:
We focused on how to change our pace and run at different speeds, how to run for different lengths of times and how to stop and start in short quick bursts. This was achieved by playing short fast paced games, having competitive races and also have a obstacle course with different apparatus in it to make use think of when we need to change our pace as well as how we can quickly change our direction. We finished with a couple races which allowed us to develop our social skills and developing our confidence in running and being competitive.
NC: take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team.
NC: play competitive games, modified where appropriate [for example, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders and tennis], and apply basic principles suitable for attacking and defending

We then had to practice running holding an object. After this we were put into teams and we had to practice passing the baton to each other using the correct technique (like you are shaking hands). At the end we raced other groups to see who was the fastest and best.
