Course overview - Study Period 1 and 2
For the first 2 weeks learners will be completing the first draft of their PEP (personal exercise programme) coursework write ups based on the training programmes they completed over the summer. After this in their theory lessons (3 per fortnight) learning for the first half term will start their paper 2 topics initially covering the Healthy Active Lifestyles topic. This topic includes sports nutrition, benefits of exercise and drugs and alcohol in sport. During the second half term learners will move onto sports psychology.
In practical lessons (1 per fortnight) learners will cover badminton until Christmas.

Assessment Points:
A mock practical exam will take place in late October. Learners will be assessed in 3 sports using the GCSE practical performance criteria.
A theory midpoint assessment will be completed and feedback given to aid mock exam preparation.
PEP first draft submissions will be graded and returned in December.
Guidance:
Learners will receive, mainly, verbal guidance throughout each practical session linked to the practical performance criteria.They will also receive a mark out of 35 for their practical sports completed in their mock practical exam.
For theory lessons a mid point assessment will be marked, graded and WWW/EBI given.
PEP will be marked according to exam board criteria and a mark out of 20 will be awarded. Learners will receive guidance on what to improve and how to move up a marking band.
