Course overview - Study Period 1 and 2
During the first half term, study period 1, learners will finish their reading and study of the text ‘Macbeth’ by William Shakespeare. They will continue to explore ideas behind setting and context, character, plot and structure and deepen their analysis and interpretations of language, structure and authorial intent.
During the second half term, study period 2, learners will be reading the text 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. They will explore context, language, ideas, form and structure. Learners will develop their personal, extended responses to the text and continue to practice writing at length and at speed. They will continue to build on the skills developed so far in their study of English Literature.
During this term, learners will also revisit Language Paper 1, which they will need for their mock exams.

Assessment Points:
Learners will complete 3 pieces of written work per half term that they will receive feedback for. Two of these will be shorter, mini assessments and the final one will be more reflective of a GSCE style longer essay question.
Learners will also have multiple opportunities for formative assessments. These include Google quizzes, Q and A and recall activities.
Guidance:
Learners will receive guidance in a variety of ways. These include marked assessments, reports, verbal feedback, written feedback in books, 1:1 interaction, Google Classroom and whole class feedback.
