Mix & Mash-Up
Mix & Mash-Up is a conceptual portrait project that explores identity through digital transformation. In this assignment, students combine multiple portraits—often their own or classmates’—to create a single, hybrid face. Using careful masking, blending, and tonal control, students are challenged to seamlessly merge features while maintaining believable lighting, structure, and expression.
The portraits in this gallery sit somewhere between familiar and uncanny. By merging different faces into one, students investigate ideas of identity, perception, and constructed realism while sharpening advanced editing skills. This project emphasizes precision, restraint, and thoughtful decision-making, demonstrating how subtle adjustments can dramatically affect meaning and emotional impact in a photograph.
