Exposure

Exposure is the first project in Photography I and serves as students’ introduction to how a camera sees light. In this assignment, students move beyond automatic settings and begin taking creative control by exploring the relationship between shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. Through hands-on shooting and experimentation, students learn how different exposure choices affect brightness, motion, depth of field and overall mood.

The resulting images show early technical decision-making paired with intentional observation. From frozen action to blurred movement and from bright highlights to deep shadows, this project marks the moment when students shift from simply taking pictures to making photographs.
