Tension

Every compelling image contains some form of push and pull. In this assignment, students created artworks centered around tension — visual, emotional, psychological, or environmental. Students explored themes such as control versus chaos, beauty versus decay, attraction versus repulsion, and fragility versus strength. The project challenged students to intentionally use composition, contrast, space, texture, and visual pressure to create work that felt unresolved, uncomfortable, or emotionally charged in purposeful ways. Media was open, allowing students to choose materials that best strengthened their concept and artistic intent.
