MR. E-SHOW - Drawing & Painting 3

Mr. E-Show’s Drawing & Painting 3™ is an advanced, portfolio-driven studio art course at Hingham High School, intended for highly motivated students who have successfully completed Drawing & Painting II and are ready to work at a pre-college level. Taught by Mr. E-Show, the course serves as the culminating experience within the Drawing & Painting sequence and the Hingham High School Arts Pathway Program.

This course emphasizes artistic independence, conceptual thinking, and professional-level craftsmanship. Students are challenged to refine their technical abilities while developing a personal visual language through sustained, ambitious projects. Instruction balances structured guidance with self-directed exploration, mirroring the expectations of collegiate studio art programs.

Mastery & Conceptual Development:
Students apply advanced understanding of the elements of art and principles of design to complex compositions and long-term investigations. Emphasis is placed on intentional decision-making, visual problem-solving, and the development of cohesive bodies of work rather than isolated assignments.

Media & Studio Practice:
Students work with advanced drawing and painting media, often combining techniques and materials to achieve nuanced surfaces, depth, and expressive impact. Extended studio time allows for experimentation, revision, and refinement, with projects requiring sustained focus and professional discipline.

Learning Objectives:
The primary goal is to prepare students for college-level art study, portfolio submission, or advanced independent creative work. Students strengthen their ability to observe, interpret, and transform visual information into meaningful artistic statements. Critique, artist statements, and reflective practice play a central role in helping students articulate intent, process, and growth.

Showcases & Portfolio Preparation:
Student work from Drawing & Painting III is prominently displayed throughout the school, featured in the annual district-wide K-12 Art Show, and frequently submitted to regional, state, and national exhibitions. Students leave the course with a refined portfolio of high-quality work suitable for college admissions, scholarships, and advanced placement opportunities.
