MR. E-SHOW - Drawing & Painting 2

Mr. E-Show’s Drawing & Painting 2™ is an advanced studio art course at Hingham High School, designed for students who have successfully completed Drawing & Painting I and are ready to deepen their technical skill, visual confidence, and personal artistic voice. Taught by **Ryan Eschauzier (Mr. E-Show), the course is part of the Hingham Public Schools Fine Arts Program and continues within the Hingham High School Arts Pathway Program.

Building on foundational observational skills, the course pushes students toward more complex compositions, refined techniques, and expressive decision-making. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, intention, and craftsmanship while encouraging students to take creative risks and develop a distinct style.

Advanced Skills & Concepts:
Students revisit and extend the seven elements of art—line, color, shape, texture, form, value, and space—through more challenging subject matter and sustained projects. Instruction focuses on advanced value relationships, proportion, spatial depth, and compositional design, with increasing independence and critical thinking.

Media & Techniques:
Students work extensively from direct observation using advanced charcoal techniques and expand into additional drawing and painting media. Projects may include longer-term still lifes, complex forms, and layered surfaces that demand precision, patience, and control.

Learning Objectives:
The course aims to strengthen students’ ability to translate what they see into compelling visual statements. Students learn to analyze light, shadow, and structure at a higher level, create convincingly three-dimensional imagery, and communicate mood, meaning, and personal perspective through their work. Critique, revision, and self-reflection are integral parts of the process.

Showcases & Recognition:
Student artwork from Drawing & Painting II is regularly displayed throughout the school, featured in the annual district-wide K-12 Art Show, and selected for regional and state exhibitions. An online gallery of student work is maintained on the instructor’s website, eschauzier.com, highlighting advanced student achievement and portfolio-ready work.
