Close-Up Basics

Close-Up Basics introduces students to careful, deliberate image-making through close-up photography. In this project, students are required to shoot at ISO 100 and use tripods for the first time, emphasizing stability, patience, and technical precision. Working up close forces students to slow down and pay close attention to focus, depth of field, and subtle details that are often overlooked.

The photographs in this gallery reflect a shift from quick, handheld shooting to a more intentional process. By controlling camera movement and limiting ISO, students learn the importance of clean files, sharpness, and thoughtful composition. This project marks an important milestone, reinforcing that strong photographs are built through planning, control, and careful observation rather than speed or chance.
