The Hingham High School Drawing and Painting I course is a foundational visual arts class that introduces students to essential artistic techniques and observational skills. Taught by Mr. E-Show, the course is part of the broader Hingham Public Schools fine arts program and contributes to the Hingham High School Arts Pathway Program.

The course is designed to explore and expand students' aesthetic perceptions while developing skills in using various visual arts media effectively.

Foundational Skills: Students learn core concepts like the seven elements of art: line, color, shape, texture, form, value, and space. The curriculum emphasizes observational realism.
Media and Techniques: A key component involves working with direct still-life setups using materials such as vine and compressed charcoal, as well as charcoal pencils.
Learning Objectives: The main goal is to teach students how to observe and record light, shadow, form, and texture. Students learn to create three-dimensional drawings with strong value control, interpreting and communicating ideas and feelings through their art.
Showcases: Student work from the course is frequently displayed in the school hallways and featured in the annual district-wide K-12 Art Show. An online gallery of student work is also available on the instructor's website, eschauzier.com.
