Hello Bear Family,
I have to admit, I have been doing a lot of praying and reflecting these past few weeks.
I pray that all of your loved ones are safe after the hurricane last week. We are very lucky to have missed the brunt of the storm here, but I know that many of us have family and friends in south Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee who may still be dealing with the impact.
I always pray for the safety of all of our families who make up the Cherokee Bluff community. Seeing a football field filled with students and staff of Apalachee High School on the news, the same field that our students and coaches were competing on only a few weeks earlier, really hit home for me.
We have done some reflecting (and will continue to do so) on our safety protocols that we have to keep our kids and staff safe. I hope you were able to view our superintendent's video message about a week ago. Today, we conducted a "teaching" safety drill. We conducted a schoolwide drill and throughout the drill paused to explain some of the "what ifs" that students ask when we have conducted drills in the past. Our SRO does multiple exterior door checks daily, and we try to remind students to never open a door for anyone, but rather send them to the front office for entrance into our building. Our students are doing a remarkable job of wearing IDs and letting adults know if they see someone without an ID in the building. I hope you can have some dinnertime discussion about these topics.
Finally, please check out our series throughout this year called Coffee and Campus Talks that will cover a wide variety of topics. Our first one covered all things CBHS and how to "be in the know," and it was a success!
Make good choices, love you, and Go Bears!

IDs and Dress Code
Our Dress Code is listed below, and a great visual reminder was created by one of our teachers is referenced to the right.
IDs are part of our school dress code and are issued to all students and staff and are expected to be visibly worn on a lanyard around the neck during the school day.
Please consider these guidelines when purchasing Back to School clothes. While our first concern is that students remain in class, students who consistently defy the dress code will have consequences beginning with calling a parent or guardian to bring other clothing to school and ending with possible ISS for not following school rules.
Please make note of the following testing dates happening the last 2 weeks before winter break. It is very important for students to be present for these tests.
Midterm Testing Dates -
ELA CBA testing week December 9 - 13
Dec. 16: Science and Modern Language
Dec. 17: Math and Health/PE
Dec. 18: CTAE and Social Studies
Dec. 19: Fine Arts and ELA
There will be NO Winter School this year. Please make sure you check your student's grades and watch for communication from their teacher and the semester draws to a close.
AP Students: Make sure you have created a CollegeBoard account and used the 6 digit Join Code given by your teacher to gain access to your course material.

Did you know...high school was actually created to deter teenagers from working! Until the Great Depression, public high schools didn’t exist, as kids went only up to the 8th grade (unless they were rich). But in order to slow the flood of young men entering the workforce during the Depression, high school was created, ensuring the few jobs went to adults and family men.
