Hall County Schools congratulates our eight students who have been named as finalists and our two students named as alternates for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program for the summer of 2024!
The Governor’s Honors Program, known as GHP, is a residential summer program for gifted and talented high school juniors and seniors. Administered by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA), for 2024 it takes place on the campus of Georgia Southern University. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and that provides students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders. GHP began in 1964; fully funded by the Georgia General Assembly, it is free of charge to participants.
Over 4,200 students from across the state applied; nearly 1500 students interviewed and auditioned in February; and approximately 700 were chosen as finalists, so we are very proud of our eight Hall County finalists and our alternates.
The Governor’s Honors Program will run from June 16 – July 13, 2024 at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. For four weeks, students will spend the morning in their major area of nomination, exploring topics not usually found in the regular high school classroom. During the afternoons, students choose one of the other areas in which to study. The curriculum in all the areas is challenging and engaging. Evenings are filled with seminars, activities, concerts, and performances. Many of GHP’s past participants regard it as one of the most life-changing events in their lives.
Congratulations to Hall County Schools’ finalists and alternates for the 2024 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program!

Recently, students from Cherokee Bluff attended the Hall County Transition Fair. These students took part in discussions such as interviewing, employment, and social etiquette. They also got to tour and meet colleges, technical schools, local businesses, the military, and community resources. We are proud of these students, Angela Slater (who finished 6th in Graphic Arts Competition), CTI Advisor Nathan O'Hanlon, Adriana Brabham, and Josh Santana! #GeorgiaCTI
Our Gear Bears had an OUTSTANDING inaugural season. They qualified to go to Houston, TX to the World Robotics Competition. They took an epic road trip to Houston and represented Cherokee Bluff so well! Our classes and staff enjoyed following along on their live feeds to see all of the amazing competitions they were competing in. They met people from all over the world. As always the Bear and theme of their team was a hit with everyone.
The band and chorus programs spent the weekend of April 19-20 in Charlotte, NC, to perform at Carowinds. Both groups had spectacular performances, which garnered praise from park-goers. The students represented our Cherokee Bluff community so well, and we are extremely proud of them. A special thanks to the dedicated chaperones, Carl and Katie Leary, Dave and Brandi Selman, Summer Selman, Jennifer Seibert, Jennifer Zimmerman, Michelle Devlin, Patricia Hurley, and Suzanne Aultman, whose support was instrumental in the trip's success. The Fine Arts Department, including Drama, has submitted an application for a potential trip next school year, and once approved, we will announce our travel plans for Spring 2025. This is a special time for our students, and we are so grateful to all who contribute to their success.
