Hello Bear Family,
It sounds cliche to say, "Can you believe it is already November?"...but with temperatures that continue in the 80s, it is that much more difficult to accept! We have made it passed the mid-point of this semester and are moving quickly to the end of Fall semester. Teachers are guiding students to keep up with their grades by recording progress and possible missing assignments during Innovation once a month. Ask your student to see their Progress Monitoring document in Google docs. And, did you know that we have set certain Wednesday mornings, during our late start, specifically for making up assignments or getting additional support? Nov. 6 and 13 are the next two dates for this...mark your calendar.
I feel like I should put one of those, "Brag Alert - if you aren't interested keep scrolling" messages on this next part. Our Kids Are AWESOME!! Have you caught one of our athletic events this Fall? Football, Cheer, Volleyball, Softball, XC have dominated all year! Bring the family and come support our Bears.
Have you seen the amazing pirates who take over midfield on Fridays when they aren't competing? Were you swept away by the story, the music, and the choreography Of HadesTown? Our band and theater programs are such a treat to experience. Holiday season is fast approaching and these programs, along with chorus and art, will have events happening soon. Don't miss them!
Classrooms are buzzing with activities that push our students to think and to problem solve. CBHS was named a Bronze level school by College Board (1 of only 3 schools in the county to be recognized) for our AP program. This distinction includes amount of classes offered, amount of students passing with a score of 3 or higher, and amount of students taking multiple classes. Proud of our teachers and students for this distinction!
Did you take part in any of the Gold Out festivities? Our Legacy students organized and designed all parts of that very impressive evening. (Senior Ashley Cook's passion project was the impetus for the Celebration of Life fair before the game.) There is nothing better than when students light up sharing a project or assignment they are proud of.
Whew...it has been a busy month around campus! When I finish writing this, I am heading to Columbus to check out our Lady Bears Softball team who are making us proud this week at State. I hope to see all of you at a game, a performance, or around campus soon. CBHS is a great place to be!
Make good choices, and, always, Go Bears!

IDs and Dress Code
Our Dress Code is listed below, and a great visual reminder was created by one of our teachers is referenced to the right.
IDs are part of our school dress code and are issued to all students and staff and are expected to be visibly worn on a lanyard around the neck during the school day.
Please consider these guidelines when purchasing Back to School clothes. While our first concern is that students remain in class, students who consistently defy the dress code will have consequences beginning with calling a parent or guardian to bring other clothing to school and ending with possible ISS for not following school rules.
Please make note of the following testing dates happening the last 2 weeks before winter break. It is very important for students to be present for these tests.
Midterm Testing Dates -
ELA CBA testing week December 9 - 13
Dec. 16: Science and Modern Language
Dec. 17: Math and Health/PE
Dec. 18: CTAE and Social Studies
Dec. 19: Fine Arts and ELA
There will be NO Winter School this year. Please make sure you check your student's grades and watch for communication from their teacher and the semester draws to a close.
AP Students: Make sure you have created a CollegeBoard account and used the 6 digit Join Code given by your teacher to gain access to your course material.

Did you know...high school was actually created to deter teenagers from working! Until the Great Depression, public high schools didn’t exist, as kids went only up to the 8th grade (unless they were rich). But in order to slow the flood of young men entering the workforce during the Depression, high school was created, ensuring the few jobs went to adults and family men.
