As I write this, I am not quite sure how we have come to the close of another month! Students and teachers continue to "Target Excellence" in the classrooms. The creativity of what is happening in the classrooms is impressive. Check with your students to see what they are doing during the day; some have played a version of corn hole to make connections in statistics, others have taken part in a classroom regatta to learn oceanography in more than a textbook, landlocked setting, some environmental science students are running around the football field trying to understand the food chain. Great things are happening in our classes!
Our talented students continue to Target Excellence outside the classrooms as well. Band has successfully kicked off their competition season, and our theater students will debut with their performance for One Act Competition, which is a version of Almost, Maine on Oct. 13th and Oct. 14th. Our Fall sports teams continue to thrive! Football is just getting going with some very close competitions, making improvements each week.
As a parent, I understand how difficult it can be to have conversations with our teenagers. So, this month, I urge you to ask questions that makes your students answer in more than one word. Rather than "How was your day?" ( to which my kids typically answered, "fine"), ask them to tell you what made their day good or bad, what made them laugh at some point during the day, or what frustrated them at school. Even if they don't say much the first time, you'll be amazed when they do!
We are finishing up this Homecoming week's festivities with Thursday's football game against Cedar Shoals and our Homecoming dance tomorrow night. A HUGE thank you to our team of staff and parents who have worked tirelessly to organize all of these activities. I am excited to get to see all of our kids all dressed up tomorrow evening!
Happy (almost) October, Make good choices, and Go Bears!

NEW: As the weather changes, again a reminder that the top or outer layer worn with leggings should hit the legs at fingertip length.
Also, if your student "borrowed" a top from the front office so that they met dress code, please return those to Ms. Tess.
OLD: Our Student Agenda is available HERE
Please help us encourage our students to follow the dress code during the school day.
NEW: THANK YOU to all of the students who are getting back in the groove and remembering their IDs each day!
In an effort to keep our campus safe and secure, all students and adults in the building should be wearing an ID or badge. Parents can go to MyPaymentsPlus to purchase a second one if your child looses it. It is the expectation for and the responsibility of the students to wear their IDs daily.

Dialectical Skills Groups
CBHS is pleased to offer Dialectical Skills Groups for our students. What are Dialectical Skills Groups (DSG's)? They are not support groups, and they are not therapy groups. They are, however, skills groups that teach students tools that they can place in their life readiness toolbelt, to equip IN and BEYOND the walls of their schools, providing students the ability to:
• self-regulate,
• be their best self in relationships, and
• to perform at higher levels academically and in the workforce.
If your student is interested in being in an upcoming group, please have them speak to their counselor.
