Here is a little glimpse into our week! I am still waiting for the go ahead to post pictures. Thank you for your patience!
Students also had the opportunity to choose a rock, wash it, and paint it orange. We placed the finished rocks beneath the tree in our backyard as a lasting reminder of the importance of Orange Shirt Day throughout the year.
This week we also enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which is always a fan favourite! The story is a wonderful read-aloud that helps us learn about the life cycle of a caterpillar, practice counting, and build new vocabulary. To extend the experience, students had an opportunity to create their very own caterpillars by painting with sponge stamps!
Last week we learned about feeling mad or angry, and this week we focused on feeling sad. We talked about what these feelings look like and discovered that mad is in the red zone while sad is in the blue zone. Some of our favorite helpers include taking deep breaths, asking for a cozy hug, or finding a quiet spot to rest. We are practicing noticing our feelings and caring for them in healthy, kind ways.
Please note: Our EIPK program will be on pause if schools close due to the Alberta Teachers’ Association strike. For the most current updates regarding potential labour action, please visit the Black Gold School Division website.
