We had so much fun with our space theme last week, that we decided we needed another week of space this week!
Students had the opportunity this week to create Name Rocket Ships. They were given full creative freedom to design their rocket ships in whatever way felt best to them. Some chose to arrange their letters from top to bottom, while others created more abstract rocket shapes.
Students also had the opportunity to create marbled planets. They began by adding watercolour paint to shaving cream, swirling the colours together, and then pressing their paper into the mixture to create a print. Using a squeegee, they carefully scraped away the excess shaving cream, revealing vibrant, marbled patterns that became their colourful planets.
This week we also experimented with a balloon rocket ship. After making predictions about what might happen, we counted down from 10 and watched as the balloon zoomed across the classroom, bringing lots of smiles and excitement!
Students also had the chance to blend yellow and orange paints, creating a vibrant, glowing sun.
Here is the poem we enjoyed reciting this week! See if your little astronaut would like to try the poem with you at home.
This week, Ms. Ronique, our Youth Care Worker, led the Healthy Hearts and Minds portion of the day. She focused on teaching the students about boundaries and how some people need more personal space than others. The students also listened to a catchy song about boundaries, which you can check out in the video below!
On Tuesday, students were thrilled to check out their very first library books! They will have their book to enjoy all week and should return it before next Tuesday, when our next library class will give them the chance to pick out a new one.
