Here are a few highlights from our week together! Click on the follow link to view this week's photos: Dec 1 - 5
This week, we recited The Bear and The Bee poem and had a blast acting out all the different movements!
Students had the opportunity to paint bears of their own! One day we added a little cinnamon to the brown paint and the next day we used coffee grounds. We used forks to create a furry texture and asked the students to guess how the paint smelled. Some guessed correctly, while others thought it smelled like chocolate or even a bear!
This week, students worked together to color our large drawings of some of the characters from the book. They enjoyed collaborating and making sure each animal, the bird, duck, cat, and horse, had the correct colors. Working on this project also helped them practice important skills like sharing, taking turns, and cooperating to complete a big task together.
Students also had the chance to act out We’re Going on a Bear Hunt in the sensory room this week! They ran through grass, splashed through the river, and crawled through a cave—just like the characters in the story!
We played a few fun bear-themed games in the gym this week! Students especially loved Little Bear, Big Bear. All of the students were the Little Bears, and they worked together to sneak food from the Big Bear’s den (a bin of beanbags guarded by the teachers) and bring it safely back to their own den. This game helped students build teamwork, agility, and spatial awareness while staying active and having fun.
This week, we explored a new feeling in the yellow zone: scared! As a group, we talked about what might make us feel scared, why it’s normal to feel this way, and what can help us in those moments, like a hug from someone we love or cuddling one of our favorite stuffed animals. We also watched a short video to help reinforce our conversation about the feeling of being scared.
