Here are a few highlights from our week together! Click on the follow link to view this week's photos: Jan 5 - 9
We kicked this week off with a space theme! We played with rocket ships, pretended to be astronauts, stamped stars, talked about the planets, and engaged in all sorts of space & magnetic related sensory play!
This week, we enjoyed reading There Was an Old Astronaut Who Swallowed the Moon. It was a fantastic read-aloud that introduced students to exciting new vocabulary, including meteoroid, comet, and satellite. Beyond expanding their word knowledge, the story was a perfect opportunity to practice our core words: I, who, and why.
This week, students had the opportunity to paint their own moons! They crumpled pieces of tin foil to create “moon rocks” and stamped them into paint to design the surface of their moons. Afterward, students used toothbrushes to flick white paint, adding texture and creating a fun, star-like effect.
This week, we sang "Zoom Zoom Zoom," and the students absolutely loved counting down and jumping up when we shouted, "Blast Off!"
This week, we wrapped up our feelings chart by learning our final feeling: happy, which lives in the green zone. We took time to review all of the other feelings we’ve been learning in the red, yellow, and blue zones, talking about what they look like and how they make us feel. Now our feelings chart is complete and posted on our bulletin board, where we can refer back to it throughout the year. It will be a helpful tool to remind us how we’re feeling, name our emotions, and choose strategies to help ourselves every day.
Our resident librarian, Mrs. Pollard, joins us every Tuesday for a short story. After missing so many Tuesdays in December, we were thrilled to welcome her back this week, especially as she read the hilarious book You Need Pants, which brought lots of laughter!
