Here are a few highlights from our week together!
We kicked off another wonderful week in our Spring/Bug theme with lots of hands‑on exploration and playful learning. Even with the shorter schedule, the children were fully engaged as we shifted into our new bees and camping focus. They moved through inviting centres that sparked curiosity, encouraged creativity, and supported early learning skills in meaningful, joyful ways. Here are a few highlights from this week’s Spring adventures.
Our One Little Blueberry storytime invited the children into a playful counting adventure. As the tiny blueberry rolled from one curious creature to the next, the children eagerly followed along—predicting what might happen, spotting familiar animals, and chiming in with each new number. They were fully engaged, laughing at the blueberry’s silly journey and proudly counting each step of the way. It was a joyful, interactive way to build early numeracy and storytelling skills while keeping the experience light, imaginative, and fun.
We brought back our Fuzzy Little Caterpillar finger play this week, and it was just as big a hit as ever. The children were instantly drawn in by the wiggly motions and soft, creeping movements, happily inching their fingers along as the caterpillar crawled, climbed, and curled up to rest. With our real caterpillars now in their chrysalis stage, the finger play felt extra special—helping the children connect what they see in the classroom to the story and motions in their hands. They loved it so much that they asked for it again and again during carpet time, filling the room with laughter, movement, and joyful anticipation for the butterflies to come.
For hands‑on learning this week, we celebrated creativity with two beautiful Spring art projects. The children each painted a colorful bird to add to our classroom tree, carefully choosing their colors and taking pride in creating something that would become part of our shared space. We also worked together on a large collaborative butterfly painting, with everyone contributing brushstrokes to bring the wings to life. Both activities encouraged fine motor skills, color exploration, and teamwork—and the children were so proud to see their artwork displayed as part of our growing Spring environment.
Our Backyard BBQ dramatic‑play area was a huge hit this week. The children loved stepping into the space—flipping pretend burgers, serving up sizzling favorites, and creating lively stories as they cooked for friends. This week, they also began mixing up simple “BBQ sauces” and picnic‑style sides using the props in the area, which added a fun new twist to their play.
