This week we dove deeper into our Ocean theme and had a blast exploring some of our favourite centers.
This week, we enjoyed reading I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean. Students loved following the giant squid as it proudly compared itself to all the other sea creatures it met: tiny fish, crabs, jellyfish, and even sharks. The playful repetition and bold illustrations kept everyone engaged while helping us build vocabulary about ocean animals. It was also a wonderful opportunity to practice our core words: in, big, little, look, and see.
Some students got the opportunity to be introduced to our second Kimochi, Huggtopus which is an Octopus! Huggtopus is a very excited and silly Octopus who learns that sometimes friends need a little bit of space and the importance of sharing and taking turn with our friends.
Students enjoyed some messy play while decorating foam shamrocks, adding lots of texture and sensory fun. Using a squeegee gave the children a new way to spread paint, strengthening hand muscles and coordination while encouraging exploration and creativity. It also supports fine motor development, bilateral coordination, and provides calming, regulating sensory input.
Students had a wonderful week engaging in hands-on activities. They enjoyed creating their own turtles and continued to have fun in our Ice Cream Shop. They loved taking orders, role-playing as waiters and customers, and “making” all kinds of ice cream treats—while building language, social, and pretend-play skills. The Ice Cream Shop is being transformed, and we can’t wait to see what it will become next!
