OCTOBER 5- 11, 2020

SCHOOL ILLNESS

School Illness is a bit of an adjustment for families due to the AHS guidelines. Thank you families for doing the Health Check before coming to school and not coming to school sick.

If your child is sick, please complete the online assessment and follow AHS guidelines. Students will be away longer than what was typical in the past. It is important that you go for a COVID-19 test, especially if it is a primary symptom as it is legally required. All of the information is found in this document:

AHS Student Illness Protocol

Please fill out the online absence form and the office appreciates knowing why each child is away so that we can keep everyone safe and school open.

EARLY DISMISSAL

Reminder is that first Wednesday of the month. Our first Early Dismissal is on Wednesday, Oct 7th. Students will be dismissed at 2:15 and 2:20 respectively.

POWER SCHOOL AND VERIFICATION

Thank you to all of the parents for completing the verification forms. We only have a few outstanding.

HALLOWEEN

Students are welcome to come to school dressed up in their Halloween costumes on Friday, October 30. We do not have enough washrooms and change rooms to allow students to change at the school like we typically used to do over the lunch hour. We do want to caution you on a few things to keep in mind should your child/ren come to school dressed for the entire day. Please note that your child/ren will:

  • be eating throughout the day with his/her costume on

  • parts could go missing throughout the day so accessories are not encouraged

  • your child has to be able to properly wear his/her mask and be able to wash their hands

  • we cannot have any shared or donated food, so please do not send any treats

  • as usual, we do not condone any violent costumes or accessories; please be school appropriate

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

Conferences will be held November 2-5. As we are not able to hold these meetings in person. Teachers will be setting up times with each of you to connect on the phone or via video conference.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

On November 10th students and staff will observe a moment of silence at 11:00 am. Throughout the week there will be various activities in the class centered on the Remembrance Day theme.

CHRISTMAS CONCERTS

With no gatherings possible at this time and a review happening in November, it leaves little to no time to prepare a Christmas concert. Mrs. Smith will work with homeroom teachers to create a montage video. This may involve students sharing favourite Christmas experiences, percussion songs with winter themes, socially distant acting meeting the drama guidelines, etc. The virtual "concert"/video will be broadcast and shared on Tuesday, December 15th.

IMPORTANT DATES

Wed, October 7th, Early Dismissal- no Pre-K or Kindergarten classes. Dismissal at 2:15 and 2:20pm respectively
