JANUARY 11-15, 2021

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

We would like to thank everyone for their participation in At-Home Learning last week. We are excited to see the students return to school on Monday!

This weekly update contains a lot of important information so we sent it out early before returning to school next week. Thank you for taking the time to read our news.

With the current situation province-wide and students returning to school, it is more important than ever for parents and schools to work together to keep everyone safe, in school and to keep cases down. The source of transmission of cases at our school so far this year has been from outside of the school such as from a parent or sibling. We had only a few cases impacting our school up to this point in the school year.

As always, please stay home if feeling ill. If displaying COVID-19 related symptoms, students must stay home until healthy. Please refer to this link, community.https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/topics/Page16998.aspx, to determine when to return to school and when testing is recommended. It is also suggested that all family members stay home until the source of illness is confirmed. This greatly helps keep everyone healthy and it lessens the impact on our entire school community.

We are very excited to see our students! Please keep the Positive Referrals coming in! Both parents and staff can name students for a Positive Referral and the kids love hearing their name over our virtual assemblies. Here is the link to the Positive Referral Nomination Form.

COVID REPORTING

Just a reminder to ensure you notify the school immediately if your child or anyone in your household develops symptoms and tests positive for COVID-19. It is very important that the school knows what day symptoms develop and/or a positive COVID test is confirmed- this helps us keep everyone in the school safe and allows our administration to respond in a timely manner.

Please ensure you email Mme El-Khatib at jennifer.elkhatib@blackgold.ca as soon as possible if you need to report a positive case. It is best to email her directly for confidentiality reasons and so we can ensure an appropriate response.

SCHOOL COUNCIL & FUNDRAISING

Please join us for our monthly Fundraising Society and School Council Meetings. Fundraising runs from 6:30-7:00pm and School Council runs from 7:00-8:00pm.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to our fundraising society for our Poinsettia fundraiser in December. It was very successful!

Our next meeting is on January 20th. All meetings will be virtual, please contact the office for the meeting link.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION OUTDOORS

Phys. Ed. will be held outdoors this upcoming week. Please ensure you send your child to school with full winter gear, including snow pants, even when the weather is nice. Thank you so much for helping us out!

The students will be walking out in the community during Phys Ed class. Parents, you have completed the blanket walking field trip form with your child’s registration at the beginning of the year, so we are notifying you of this off-site activity.

REPORT CARDS AND VIEWING GRADES ON POWERSCHOOL

Report cards will be emailed home on Thursday, January 28. We would like to inform you that viewing grades and assignments on your child’s PowerSchool is suspended until that time to allow teachers to work on reporting.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION AND OPEN HOUSE

Current Pre-Kindergarten students who will attend kindergarten next year (2021-22) need to register for Kindergarten at your designated school.

Pre-Kindergarten registration dates for 2021/22 are still to be determined.
