Sir Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was a very clever mathematician who was mostly known for defining gravity.
Birth and family
Sir Isaac Newton was born in Woolsthorpe on December 25th 1642. He grew up with his mum and dad but he had no brothers or sisters.
Childhood and education
Sir Isaac Newton was very bright at school and he passed an exam to get into Grantham Grammar School. In 1661 he joined Trinity College in Cambridge where he got his bachelor of arts degree in 1665. He then became a mathematician. In 1669 he had a great boost in his career and became the new Lucasian Chair of Mathematics.
Working to define gravity
In the 1670’s Newton worked on the mathematics of gravity at home in Cambridge. After a long time, he completed his calculations and shared them with Halley (a publisher) who wanted to publish his work.
How he became famous
In 1686 Newton presented his first book to the Royal Society. After 3 years Newton was elected as Cambridge’s representative to parliament. After 16 years of studying, Newton was finally knighted by Queen Anne. That’s why he is now known as Sir Isaac Newton.
