A. General Internet Use
Permission
We ask permission before using the Internet.
Searching
We only search when given permission using approved search engines.
Navigating
We immediately minimise any webpage which is inappropriate for the topic and tell an adult.
When it goes wrong
We tell the teacher if we see anything which is inappropriate.
Can information be trusted?
We think carefully about whether information we find can be trusted.
Downloading
We do not download programs onto school computers.
Copyright
We do not take someone else’s work and pretend it is ours.
B. Communicating
Audience
We think carefully about what we publish because we do not know who is going to look at it.
Sending messages to friends
We send messages that are polite and friendly.
Sending messages to people we do not know
We send messages to people we do not know with the help an adult.
Receiving messages from people we do not know
We talk to an adult when we receive messages from someone we do not know.
Junk mail
We block junk mail to make sure our inbox does not get too full.
Scam
We tell an adult if we receive a message which might be trying to trick us.
Email containing viruses
We tell an adult if we receive a message which might harm the computer.
Are messages reliable?
We think carefully about whether the messages people send can be trusted.
Chat rooms
If we use a chat room at home, we use it safely, sensibly and responsibly with the permission of an adult.
Meeting new contacts
We never arrange to meet anyone we do not know.
C. Security
Personal info
We never give out a full name, home address, phone number or photo.
First names or nicknames are fine. You can have lots of fun coming up with a cool nickname.
Password secrecy
We keep our passwords secret. We change our home passwords often.
Reason for secrecy
We understand what sort of information it is important to keep secret for our safety.
