At Gorseland, we have a wide range of sports that the children take part in during their lesson time but we also have some fantastic lunch time and after school sports clubs too. Gorseland is represented by school teams that compete against other schools in both friendly and 'league' competitions. These teams have been very successful in winning awards and trophies, which makes us very proud, but we also pride ourselves in a 'give everyone an opportunity' attitude.
Take a look at our News Desk for the latest team successes and valiant efforts.
Working Together
Year 5 worked collaboratively in a PE session recently. 20 children from Class 5a worked in pairs to teach the remainder of both classes PE skills. First they researched their ideas in class and then they put together a session, including a 2 minute warm up followed by 8 minutes of teaching the skill, having first gathered and set out their equipment. The children learning the skills rotated around the groups. A very enjoyable afternoon was had and it was great to see all children enjoying their task, having fun and learning or developing skills.

Team Gorseland win again!
Congratulations to all of the pupils who took part in the Kesgrave Pyramid Cross Country Event that took place on Thursday 11th October.
Despite the rain, the 4 events went ahead; 4 teams were entered and we had 4 wins! A fantastic team effort and one that means Gorseland retains the team shields for the Year 5 girls, Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls and the Year 6 boys.
A big thank you to Mr Guite and Mrs Rose (very wet but very pleased) and all of the parents that supported the teams.
The Gorseland Cross Country Team representing the school
NetballThe school netball team is very lucky to have enthusiastic boys and girls who regularly turn up for training sessions. Both friendly and competitive games are played against other schools and if you are ever late at school one night you may get a glimpse of the teachers playing a friendly game amongst themselves!

"At Gorseland we pride ourselves on the wide variety of activities that we offer, both in and out of school time, in lessons and clubs. It is a fantastic achievement, especially as we were judged against high schools. We are extremely proud of everybody involved" - Jan Seaborne
Key Stage 2 took part with the children being teamed up in mixed year groups and choosing which events they took part in. A wide variety of sports were available and the events were supported by parents who cheered the children along. We even had an official Olympic torch bearer visit the school who allowed the children to hold a little piece of Olympic history. Such a fantastic day!
