Sir Chris Hoy
Introduction
Sir Chris Hoy is an all-time favourite GB cyclist. He is Great Britain’s most decorated Olympian of all time. 6 gold medals and 1 silver makes up 7 medals in 4 Olympic Games.
Childhood
Sir Chis Hoy was born in Edinburgh in Scotland. He went to George Watson’s College, as a primary school and a high school. When he was just 14, he joined his first track cycling club. When Chris was 20 years old he went to St Andrew’s University, where he then transferred to Edinburgh University, to help his cycling career.
Olympics
In 1999 Chris came second in his first track cycling championship. In the Sydney Olympics in 2000 Chris won silver in the team sprint, which meant he could celebrate his success. Just four years later he managed to go one better and win the gold medal in the team sprint. In 2008 Chris won 3 gold medals in sprint, Keirin and team sprint. After the Olympics Chris won the Sports Personality of the Year award, then went on to receive a knighthood in 2009. In 2012 he managed to win 2 gold medals, at the age of 36. He was also a Flag bearer at London 2012.
Legacy
On the 13th of September, Chris was named the Glasgow ambassador for the 2014 commonwealth games. He has really inspired a new generation of young track cyclists, because of his great perseverance and carrying on even when the going gets tough.
