Mae Jemison
Introduction
Mae Jemison is known for being the first female black astronaut. She is a great role model because she has worked really hard throughout her life and still is.
Early life and education
Mae was born on October the 17th 1956. She went to Morgan Park High School in Chicago, Illinois in 1966 then she graduated in 1973. After graduating Mae entered Cornell University Medical College to work towards a medical degree.
Later on in her life
Four years later after graduating she went to Stanford University studying chemical engineering in 1977. Mae then received a doctor of medicine degree. She then served in the Peace Corps in Africa. She was accepted on to NASA’s astronaut program in 1988; four years later, she became the first female black astronaut when she spent more than a week aboard the space shuttle Endeavour that was in orbit going around Earth.

After leaving NASA in 1993, she taught environmental studies at Dartmouth College.
