It is hard to believe that the 2024-2025 school year is winding down and we are approaching the last week of classes. It was another incredible year with lots of amazing events planned by some very hardworking individuals in our J.L. Community. Read on to reflect on an amazing year!
Unified Sport
-Our Unified Sports team has been busy balling this year! We had great showings at all of our tournaments. Congrats to all students who participated and thanks to Mrs. Robinson and the EPAs for making the program possible.
Kitchen Brigades
-Kitchen Brigades was a weekly program that worked out of our beautiful and fully equiped kitchen to partake in food-based challenges. Students from J.L. served up victory when they beat other schools in the province to punch their ticket to a competition in Winnipeg. Students competed against other schools from across the country and made new friends and delicious dishes along the way.
Business Fair
-Mr. Oxner's Business Management 12 and Entrepreneurship 12 classes showed off their businesses to students and staff in a fair set up in the cafeteria. Student-led businesses included jewelry, stickers, cheesecake, shwarma, makeup sales, and much more! We predict some very business-savvy J.L. alumni in the future.
Sports
-Once again, J.L. showed they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of high school sports. We had multiple athletes attend regional and provincial competitions in track and field and cross country, our girls rugby team had an undefeated regular season, our boys rugby team made an awesome comeback after a years-long hiatus, and many of our other programs were contenders in their respective leagues. Way to go Judges!
Improv
-J.L. Improv came FIRST in the province this year and advanced to the Canadian Improv Games National Competition for the first time in the school's history. Coaches Keegan and Ms. Whiteway were also honoured for their mentorship and dedication. Congratulations to everyone involved for making the J.L. community so proud!
J.L. Trading Cards
-Mr. Fredericks and his Business Technology 11 classes were busy at work this semester creating the 1st edition of J.L. trading cards. There were 53 available cards to collect. Cards included J.L. spirit, staff, and even some staff's pets! We heard that Ms. Amy, Cst. O'Brien, and Kathy's card were high value but the rarest of them all is the rumoured singular Mr. Jerrett card. Can you collect them all?
Musical Revue
-It was another successful year for the musical! This year's show was a "Musical Revue". This means that students performed different numbers from a variety of popular musicals, old and new. Some selections included songs from showstoppers like Mamma Mia, Dear Evan Hansen, Frozen, Chicago, Mean Girls: The Musical, Cabaret, Wicked, and much more! Thank you Ms. Cooper, Mme. Mignault, cast, and crew for their hard work to make this year's show another one to remember.
Career Cafe
-Mrs. Hart's Community Based Learning 11 class worked with Job Junction/Nova Scotia works to put on a well-attended "Career Cafe". This event hosted employers and organizations from different industries that had employment and volunteer opportunities for students. They also had some pretty awesome freebies too!
Spirit Weeks
-As always, our Student Council and GSA were hard at work organizing several super fun Spirit Weeks throughout the year. Some of the theme days included: Anything But a Backpack Day, Monochromatic Outfit, Dress Like a Student/Teacher Day, Dress Like a Celebrity, Future Plans Day, and much much more! Thank you for another great year of Spirit Weeks.
