On a beach in Vancouver, British Columbia a B.C. resident was enjoying the peaceful crash of the waves and running their hands through the sand. Suddenly, they found themself holding a wedding band and a "J.L." class ring. With nothing but the school name (from the other side of the country!) and the name "KURT" inscribed on the inside, the task to find the owner of the ring seemed monumental.
The good samaritan in B.C. googled "J.L." and came across our school website. From there, they sent an email to our Vice Principal, Mr. Kurt Jerrett. Mr. Jerrett hopped right on the job and enlisted the staff's help in solving the mystery. The staff scoured the class of 1995's yearbook to look for anyone who had a similar name and graduated that year. They had narrowed it down to one individual!
High School Readiness Teacher and J.L. Alumni, Juli Gillard also graduated in 1995. She believed that she had the owner of the rings as a Facebook friend... and sure enough, it was him! J.L. staff connected the good samaritan and the owner of the rings and it turned out that they only lived 30 minutes away from each other. The good samaritan met up with the J.L. alumni and returned the rings.
Thanks to some Facebook sleuthing, yearbook investigation, and community connections...the ring was returned to its rightful owner.
It goes to show the importance of kindness, doing the right thing, and connecting with one another!
