Well folks, that's it for the 2023-2024 school year at J.L. Ilsley High School. We hope you had a fantastic year.Â

Grade Nine: Take Your Kid to Work Day:
-November 1st was Take Your Kid to Work Day for grade nines! Grade nines had the opportunity to shadow someone at their job in a variety of industries. It was a great opportunity for students to see firsthand the different possibilities in the working world!
Dances:
-We had several well-attended dances at J.L. this year. We had a Halloween dance that was full of amazing costumes, students really showed up and showed out! We also had a Spring Fling. Students wore some of their best outfits and looked very snazzy while dancing the night away! We hope students enjoyed the dances :)Â
3 Metro Banners:
-J.L. Athletics had a great year! The Boys Soccer, Girls Hockey, and Girls Softball teams all captures the Metro Athletic Association Banner in their respective leagues. We are very proud of all our athletes who participated on any sports team this year.
Provincial Showings:
-J.L. Athletics also had a great showing at provincial competitions, where they competed with athletes from across the province. Girls Hockey battled hard, Girls softball had several close games and a big win, and Brooklyn Veinot won 2nd place in discus at Track and Field provincials! Way to go Judges.
Spirit Weeks:
-We had a variety of Spirit Weeks throughout the year, organized by Students' Council. Spirit Weeks included lots of creative theme days and activities. The school GSA also organized their own activity weeks that were a hit! Thank you to all students who participated and showed their school spirit.Â
Academic Awards:
-The Academic Awards for 2022-23 students were held Feb 15th 9:20-10:20 in the cafeteria. Students who had a 75% average or higher were recognised with a certificate and a cookie!
J.L. First Annual Craft Fair:
-On November 25th, J.L. hosted its 1st Annual Craft Fair in the gymnasium. The fair was organized by the school's SAC. The fair had over 25 vendors who sold baked goods, holiday decor, and much more! We even had some students participate as vendors in the event. We hope the event continues next year!
J.L. Job Fair:
-In collaboration with Nova Scotia Works/Job Junction, the Community Based Learning 11 class organized a Job Fair for the student body. There were 18+ employers im attendance that were looking to hire students for part-time job opportunities.
Mean Girls: The Musical:
-Mean Girls: The Musical was an absolute hit! The student matinee sold out and the evening shows were packed to the brim with community members. We have a very talented group of students who both acted and work behind the scenes. Thanks to Ms. Cooper and Ms. Mignault for all their hard work!
J.L. Improv:
-The J.L. Improv team had a historic finish at the Nova Scotia Regional Improv Competition! The team finished 3rd among some of the oldest improv programs in the region. The J.L. community is very proud of their hard work! Thanks Ms. Whiteway and Coach Keegan for your support.
Unified Sport:
-J.L. students showed off their skills at Unified Basketball tournaments throughout the year. Gian Ko, Corran Squire, and Amy-Lynn Supak were all named MVP's. Way to go Judges! Thanks to Ms. Robinson and all other volunteers and participants.
Student Recognition Awards:
-On June 5th, we recognized athletes and participants in J.L.'s clubs for their outstanding contributions to the J.L. community. Congratulations to all award winners.
