Hello Lovelies,
Thank you for reading the Book Nook Column of the JL Verdict Newspaper :) Quick disclaimer: all the ratings are totally biased and something that I may personally like or dislike may not be the same as your opinion and that's 100% ok, I am doing this for fun and to talk about books I like. If you have any book recommendations, email me at ted831802@gnspes.ca and I will be happy to read them. Since exams were here I wasn't able to write about a ton of books but I have a list of books I read in the past month and books I will read down below if you are interested in reading them before I write about them. Have a good time and enjoy the Book Nook!
Bye,
Ella Tobin :)

Bookshops & Bonedust is a relaxing high fantasy read that follows a young orc barbarian named Viv who got injured during a fight and is left in a sleepy coastal town to recover while the rest of her group goes to hunt down a necromancer. She befriends a ratkin who runs a failing bookshop and decides to help them bring it back. Throughout the novel you are introduced to a few interesting characters, but Viv seems to be the focus. The best part of the book was the amazing cozy atmosphere that was achieved and that made me want to read it a hundred times, good thing I had the sequel. The plot of the restoration and revitalization of the bookshop takes center stage, but there is a darker subplot that sometimes feels a little too out of place, even with Viv being an adventurer who hunts down dangerous creatures. This book is a really nice relaxing light read with 352 pages.

Legends and Lattes is a relaxing high fantasy read that follows a young orc barbarian named Viv who has decided to retire from her life of adventure and opens up a small coffee shop in a nice town. Throughout the book you see that her simple life running a coffee shop selling a "Gnomish Delicacy" may not be as easy as she thought, as gangs and bitter rivals try to implead her success. In the novel you are introduced to a few interesting characters, but Viv seems to be the focus. The best part of the book was the amazing cozy atmosphere that was achieved and that was much cozier then the prequel. The plot of the book was much clearer and more focused on the coffee shop making it much easier to follow. This book is a really nice relaxing light read with 304 pages.

The Moth Keeper is a beautiful whimsical read that follows a young girl named Anya who has been chosen to become the next moth keeper for her village. I personally found the plot a little difficult to follow and was mainly drawn in because of it's beautiful artwork and atmosphere. It's got a real whimsical feel to it and I recommend it to people who like reading graphic novels.

The Grace of wild things is and enthralling novel set in PEI about a young girl named Grace who believes she is a witch so she runs away from her place in the orphanage to fin a witch rumored to live in the woods kilometers from her town who is also suspected to cook children who wander by. Grace with her quick thinking and aptitude for improv magic, if not exactly getting the results she wanted, is able to convince the witch to take her under her wing as her apprentice and teach her as long as she completed all the spells in the witch's grimoire before a tree blooms, she will take her as an apprentice officially, otherwise the witch will take all of her magic. But the spells are harder to complete then expected and between attending normal school and making friends with fairies and humans alike her life is quite a whirlwind of action and adventure and she isn't complaining. The plot, characters, and atmosphere drew me in and made this book super interesting. I recommend it if you like to hear about fantasy and seemingly folklore inspired novels.
