Today is lab day! For your Do Now:
Which trial of your experiment do you think will have the quickest cellular respiration?
How will you be able to tell?
Why do you think that?
I can explain how different amounts of available food affects the amount of carbon dioxide produced during cellular respiration.
This means I will develop a question, research, and hypothesis.
This means I will summarize my experiment, write a procedure, and collect data.
This means I will analyze my data and write a conclusion about my findings.
What is your process?
You will complete 3 trials simultaneously. Here is what you should do:
In each of 3 test tubes, put different amounts of sucrose (sugar). One of them should have zero sugar.
Add 30 mL of warm water to each tube. Stir until sucrose dissolves.
Add 2 grams of yeast to each tube and seal the top with a balloon. You should do all tubes at the same time.
Using calipers, measure the diameter of each balloon every 5 minutes for 20 minutes.
In between trials, make your graph. Toward the end you can start writing your conclusion.
