We will be collecting and viewing human cells today.
In what way do you think these cells will be similar to the plant cells or bacteria cell we viewed this week? In what ways do you expect them to be different?

Write down as many organelles (cell parts) as you can remember and the function of each.
OR
Draw a picture of a cell with as many organelles as you can remember and label them.
I can compare and contrast different types of cells by completing the first investigation of Unit 4!
This means I will listen to and follow all safety guidelines for slides and microscopes.
This means I will prepare slides of different types of cells.
This means I will write about my observations.
SAFETY GUIDELINES
♥ Carry microscopes with one hand on the base and one on the arm.
♥ Slides and slide covers are sharp and fragile!
1. Slides and slide covers should be handled gently and held only on the edges.
2. Slides can be reused. Slide covers are disposable.
3. You will be collecting some of your own cells to view under the microscope. The person doing this should wear gloves and sanitize the slide afterward with rubbing alcohol.
4. Especially today, running or horseplay of any sort will not be tolerated in the classroom.
♥ Carefully read the procedure for each step before attempting the step. Failure to do so could result in loss of microscope privileges.
What's up with this lab?
♥ You will prepare and view several different specimens. One of the specimens is already prepared for you.
♥ You will draw pictures of the various specimens you view at different magnifications.
♥ You will only prepare one of each specimen per group (and you will share the view). Each person should prepare one slide.
♥ This packet is due at the end of class on Thursday.
