How long is the red line? Represent as a fraction.
BONUS: What is this measurement as a decimal?
I can identify the steps of the scientific process.
This means I will read the introduction to the eighth grade lab manual.
This means I will set up my lab notebook for eighth grade science.
Who uses the scientific process?
If you want, grab a KWL organizer. In the "Know" column, write down what you hear about who uses the scientific process.
Any additions to the list? Who uses the scientific process? What is it for?
In your organizer, write additional things you hear in the "learned" column.
If you have any questions, write them in the "wonders" column.
What first got Eva excited about science?
What question was Eva trying to answer when she started working at the Alzheimer's clinic?
Why do scientists ask questions?
Can you think of a time when you were a scientist? What question were you trying to answer and how did you go about finding the answer?
Let's set up our lab notebooks!
STEP 1: Fill out cover and first page
On the
cover and first page
, write clearly:
YOUR NAME
YOUR BLOCK
8th GRADE SCIENCE
STEP 2: Number first 10 pages
On the top right hand side of each page, number from 1 to 10
Start with page 1 (which you already wrote on)
Do not number the backs of pages
STEP 3: Title page 2
On the top line of page 2, write "
The Scientific Process
"
STEP 4: Title page 3
On the top line of page 3, write "The Engineering Process"
STEP 5: Title page 4
On the top line of page 4, write "
Table of Contents
"
STEP 6: Finish Page 2
This is "The Scientific Process" page
Write the 8 steps of the scientific process and a brief explanation of each one
Refer to pages 7-10 in the lab manual to find information
STEP 1: Question -
STEP 2: Research -
STEP 3: Hypothesis -
STEP 4: Summarize Experiment -
STEP 5: Materials and Procedure -
STEP 6: Scientific Diagram -
STEP 7: Data -
STEP 8: Conclusion -
Why is it important to follow a process in both science and engineering?
What would happen if scientists tried to conduct an experiment without first asking a question?
Why are data important in an experiment?
Homework
No homework!
