What is albedo?
What color of paper has the lowest albedo?
What color has the highest?
Make sure you picked up a text for Case Study 2. Socratic dialogue will be on Friday!
I can explain how the angle of the Sun's rays affects the temperature on Earth by completing a lab.
This means I will develop a lab question.
This means I will write a lab procedure with my group.
This means I will collect and analyze data in order to draw a conclusion about my findings.
Lab Introduction
Many complex factors come together to shape the weather and climate on Earth. One of those driving factors is the uneven heating of the surface of the Earth by the Sun.
What are some of the causes of the uneven heating?
STEP 1: The Question
What should our lab question be?
STEP 2: Research
Using the lab manual, videos that we watched, or other sources, write down 3 facts that are relevant to your lab question.
Make sure the facts are either bullet-ed or numbered in a list form.
STEP 3: Hypothesis
Write a hypothesis that could answer your lab question. This should be written in declarative form.
When the Sun's rays strike the curved surface of the Earth, they cause the temperature to be _____________ at the poles and ____________ near the equator.
STEP 4: Experiment Summary
This should be written in paragraph form. Your experiment summary should include the following:
- Independent variable (What are you changing in each trial of your experiment?)
- Dependent variable (What are you measuring during the experiment?)
- Constants (What are the thing(s) that do not change?)
- One sentence summary of your experiment ("Our experiment will measure the temperature of three different angled surfaces when heated by a lamp.")
STEP 5: Materials and Procedure
Vertically list all the materials you will use for your experiment
For this experiment, the procedure is given to you. Cut out and glue in the procedure.
