SEN at home

The change of routine for children with SEN from learning at school to learning at home maybe more difficult than for their peers. Many children enjoy the structure of the school day so setting up a timetbale or daily routines may help. If children are struggling to acces the learning set by the class teacher, email the year group email address and let the teacher know, they will have suggestions for what to prioritise.

Try to incoporate learning into practical tasks such as cooking, reading the scales when measuring, reading ingredients of recipes, sharing food onto plates. Use art or craft as a stimulus for discussion, visual prompts will help 'hook' children into learning tasks.

Play board games or teach children a new card game, this will help children with their listening skills as they follow instructions and will also help with turn taking skills. Many games need children to use maths or think strategically. Can they teach another member fo the family how to play?

Reading daily is key and there are many free audio books available now which will take the pressure off the children in reading but will keep their interest and comprehsion skills developing.
