WELCOME TO THE PE PAGE!

Hello, nice to meet you all!

My name is Alex Hawtin and welcome to the PE pages! I hope that you are all keeping well and are enjoying exercising and playing sports with your families.

On the following pages, I have posted and created lots of ideas for PE & Games activities and fun ways to stay active. It doesn't matter what sports you do or when (you can do any activity from any week at any time) - the most important thing is that you keep active and have fun :-)

PE, GAMES & EVERYONE ACTIVE

The Department of Health guidelines state that:

• Children and young people should engage in moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity for an average of at least 60 minutes per day across the week. This can include all forms of activity such as physical education, active travel, after-school activities, play and sports.

• Children and young people should engage in a variety of types and intensities of physical activity across the week to develop movement skills, muscular fitness, and bone strength.

• Children and young people should aim to minimise the amount of time spent being sedentary, and when physically possible should break up long periods of not moving with at least light physical activity.

PE and Games lessons at Evendons focus on the following:

  1. Enjoyment & Wellbeing

  2. Keeping fit and active

  3. Social skills and the Evendons’ values such as resilience and cooperation.

  4. Experience of a range of different sports leading to mastery of skills

Most importantly, at Evendons we aim to create a love of sport which will continue as they grow up and find sporting activities which they can continue into adulthood. We encourage children to be active throughout the day in different ways from number /phonic card hunts outside in Maths and Literacy to playing on their scooters at break times.

There are many ways children can continue to enjoy sports and be active away from school; riding their bike, dancing to music or kicking a football about in the garden are all examples of how children can enjoy keeping active.

Every week, I will be adding links to this learning hub with ideas of how to keep active for 60 minutes a day.

SUPER MOVERS

The Premier League and BBC have teamed up to get the nation’s primary-school children moving and learning.

Short, fun, active learning videos to get kids active at home covering Maths, English, PSHE and languages. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers

DANCE

Why not have a daily family 'Music and Movement' session in the morning? At school we do 15 minutes of dancing, usually at about 10:30 before our snack. Have a look at Lucinda's Music section and pick your favourite tracks from Lucinda's playlist. You could teach your family some of your best moves or make up a routine.

For a fun Dance lesson in the afternoon, tune in to the live 10 minute dance lesson at 1:30pm on Facebook every day. See https://ddmixforschools.com/ . I will look out for any 'shout outs' to EPS. I will pick my favourite dances and add to the weekly PE posts, to remind you of some of the key dance moves for each style of dance.

PE AT HOME -SOCCER IN SCHOOLS and JUST PLAY SPORTS

Daily PE lessons led by Jack, Jake and team. Children may recognise Jake in session 1 from our after school sports clubs. https://www.facebook.com/soccerinschools/

GoNoodle has a fantastic selection of activities to try at home. You can pick and choose from a range of videos including dance workouts, yoga, ball sports, fitness exercises etc. As you complete each video, your character moves up the level. Have a look at Week 3 PE, for more details.

#THIS IS PE-SUPPORTING PARENTS TO TEACH PE AT HOME

https://www.afpe.org.uk/physical-education/thisispe-supporting-parents-to-teach-pe-at-home/

Yorkshire Sport Foundation and national organisations, including afPE, have been working with physical educators from across the country to support parents to teach PE at home.

Short two-minute videos are being posted that show parents free, fun and easy to follow PE activities for the whole family to enjoy together.

Each #ThisIsPE video will focus on a different aspect of the National Curriculum. The videos, delivered by PE teachers, will help children and young people to continue their skill development in PE during this period when we are having to stay at home, to save lives.

Videos will be posted at 1pm on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You don’t need to be in PE kit and you don’t need sports equipment. All of the videos will use things that you can find around the home.

Have a look at Week 6 PE for a gymnastics video from #ThisIsPE..
