Forensic SciENCE

Available to students 11th and 12th grade students

Forensic Science is a lab-based course in which students participate in action research projects that are designed around many of the different types of Forensic Sciences.  Some of these include: blood spatter analysis, blood typing, DNA analysis, fingerprinting analysis, Chromatography, Impression evidence, Entomology, etc.  At various points in the year, we will hear from some of the experts in several different fields of Forensics.  This is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn about the real-life processes of investigation science.  Whether you are planning to be a police officer, detective, Forensic Scientist, or just enjoy watching the C.S.I. shows on T.V., you will be able to enhance your use of critical thinking skills to plan and implement investigative procedures and collect and analyze data to come to a conclusion.  Many of the aspects of this course are fun but serious.  You will practice and learn to become an investigative scientist in this course.  You will be expected to conduct several action research projects in which you will communicate your results.  This is a great opportunity to have a little freedom in exploring Forensic Science.  We will compare the science of the T.V shows to the actual science that is being used.  You will work with others in the class and will be expected to actively collaborate with one another to be successful in the investigation process.
