Precalculus /AP/ UT/GT

203210 Precalculus

Prerequisite: Geometry and Algebra II Credit: 1

This course includes the study of the trigonometric functions, graphing trigonometric functions, solving right triangle problems and trigonometric equations, and deriving, proving and using trigonometric identities. Graphing calculators are used extensively in this course to aid in understanding and learning. Other topics are included in the course in order to provide the background needed to succeed in calculus. These include the study of functions and their graphs, polynomial functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, vectors, complex numbers, sequences and series, and second-degree relations.

203220 AP Precalculus

Prerequisite: Algebra II or Honors Algebra II  Credit: 1

In AP Precalculus, students explore everyday situations and phenomena using mathematical tools and lenses.  Through regular practice, students build deep mastery of modeling and functions. Students learn how to observe, explore, and build mathematical meaning from dynamic systems.  AP Precalculus is foundational for careers in mathematics, physics, biology, health sciences, social sciences and data sciences.  Students study each function type through graphical, numerical, verbal and analytical representations and applications.   In addition, students select, construct and validate function models using transformation of functions and regressions.  They learn how to select mathematical models, characteristics of covarying quantities and their relative rates of change.

203221 UT OnRamps Precalculus

Prerequisite: Algebra II or Honors Algebra II & Fee (Tuition)    Credit: 1

DSHS staff in collaboration with The University of Texas Professors teach OnRamp courses. These courses fit into a normal schedule which allows students to take the courses while also taking ACC Dual Enrollment courses. However students do not need to be enrolled in ACC dual enrollment courses to qualify and take OnRamp courses. Students will earn high school credit for Honors PreCalculus and college credit for PreCalculus (M 305G). Students will earn 3 hours of college credit for PreCalculus and 1 credit of high school credit. The curriculum and instructional pedagogy is based on the latest research on how students learn best and enhanced by technology and robust learning analytics.
