Debate II - IV

Prerequisite: Debate I or Public Speaking I, commitment to contest participation     Credit: 1

Debate II-III is a course designed to promote research, analysis, and public speaking skills in an educational environment of competition. Students learn and review basic and advanced oral communication skills in the classroom and will be given the opportunity to apply those skills at interscholastic speech and debate tournaments. Students continue to enhance their complete understanding of CX/Policy Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, World Schools Debate, Congressional Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, and Oral Interpretation. 

Debate II students are required to attend at least 3 competitions per semester.  Debate III students are required to attend at least 4 competitions per semester.  Double-blocked students are expected to attend at least half of our scheduled tournaments each semester.  The course is highly rigorous and mostly self-directed. Students must maintain UIL eligibility to compete.

Debate can be double blocked for one year of a student's high school career by taking/adding:

Debate IV: Independent Study in Speech

Prerequisite: Debate III     Credit: 1

Debate IV students are required to attend at least 4 competitions per semester.  Double-blocked students are expected to attend at least half of our scheduled tournaments each semester.  The course is highly rigorous and mostly self-directed. Students must maintain UIL eligibility to compete.
