APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
This course is divided in two modules. The first module- advanced theatre set design -, provides the students with the necessary professional tools to design a set for the world of artistic performances and exhibitions, in order to deliver comprehensive projects designed for contemporary audiences. The second module deals with a set design project that diverts from the classic theatrical architecture, and is meant for non-conventional spaces.
The total credits for this course are 10, divided as follows:
ADVANCED THEATRE SET DESIGN: 7 CFA
THEATRICAL PROJECTS: 3 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
Analyse a text, opera, or ballet dramaturgy and create both a set design and a direction plan for it.
Develop a personal creative vision of artistic performances.
Be aware of the scenic space in relation to actors, technicians and audience.
ADVANCED THEATRE SET DESIGN:
Development of a moodboard
Development of ideas for set and costume design, working on the dramaturgy
Creation of final sketches for scenery and costumes
Creation of scale models
Creation of maps, sections and executive drawings of the designed elements using CAD software applications
THEATRICAL PROJECTS:
Development of a moodboard
Analysis of the given non-conventional space
Development of ideas for set and costume design, working on the dramaturgy
Creation of final sketches for scenery and costumes
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Over the course, the students will carry out the following didactic activities, which may vary depending on the projects to be developed.
Front lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other multi-media material

Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Oral exam
