APPROACH
Theoretical/project based
This course provides the students with basic skills in theatre stagecraft, with the study of stages as scenic machinery. The two modules analyse both the theatre perspective representation systems, and the elements of the scene with their construction methods, going through the development of technical drawings and scale models.
The total credits for this course are 10, divided as follows:
BASIC SCENE DESIGN: 5 CFA
PROJECT SCENE DESIGN: 5 CFA
Successful students will be able to:
BASIC SCENE DESIGN:
Develop perspective drawings and models
Use rendered perspective drawing to create maps and sections
Use the perspective grid for sketching
PROJECT SCENE DESIGN:
Acquire basic competencies in theatre stagecraft
Understand stages as scenic machinery
Understand how scene elements are created in laboratories
BASIC SCENE DESIGN:
Analysis of perspective applied to the theatrical space
Rendered perspective
Perspective grid
Positioning of scenery flats (Italian style, German style...)
Three-dimensional models created from perspective views
PROJECT SCENE DESIGN:
Detailed analysis of some of the scenic elements studied in the first semester
Analysis of scenery flats, ceilings, platforms, ladders, scenery wagons, turntables
Technical drawing of the analysed elements
Creation of scale models
This is a theoretical/project based course.
Over the course, the students will carry out the following didactic activities, which may vary depending on the projects to be developed.
Front lectures
Use of tutorials, videos or other multi-media material
Exercises and revisions
Laboratories
Individual or group projects
Individual or group study and research
Assessment tools may include:
Oral exam
Comprehensive projects
Submission of papers, projects or research work

The final grade will result from the weighted average of the programme modules.
